Our History - Swann's Furniture & Design

1895

T.E. Swann founded Swann's Furniture & Carpet Company in downtown Tyler, Texas, at the age of twenty. The company was known for receiving merchandise shipments by rail car and using horse and mule-drawn carts for delivery.

1920

T.E. Swann's interest in the company, then known as "Swann's Furniture and Undertaking Company," was purchased by his cousin, Elam Franklin Swann, Sr., who quickly sold the mortuary business and changed the name to "Swann's Furniture."

1945

Elam Sr.'s sons, Franklin Jr. and Thomas, joined the family business and gradually assumed management responsibilities.

1975

Elam Franklin Swann III joined Swann's Furniture as a salesman.

1980

Elam Franklin Swann III assumed management responsibilities and moved the company to a new location on the east loop in Tyler, opening as Swann's Furniture Gallery in 1989.

2008

Elam's son, Elam Franklin Swann IV, joined the company.

2012

The store moved to its current location on Old Jacksonville Highway in south Tyler, opening as Swann's Furniture & Design.
